The movement’s National Secretary, Saadatu Sani, made the position known in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, following the NDC’s disassociation from a 59-member presidential campaign council recently announced by the movement.
The council, unveiled on Thursday, named John Ughulu as National Director-General and Sani as National Secretary. However, the NDC, in a statement on Saturday, described the council as unauthorised and urged the public to disregard it.
Responding, Sani said the OK Movement recognised the constitutional authority of political parties but remained an independent organisation with its own leadership and internal processes.
She said the movement had resolved to support the NDC’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates, as well as other candidates where applicable.
“The OK Movement does not require the personal validation or approval of any individual before exercising its legitimate organisational functions in accordance with established processes,” she said.
Sani also dismissed suggestions that the movement was dependent on political office holders, saying it was built from the grassroots and was not seeking appointments or positions within the NDC as a condition for its support.
She claimed the movement had about 2.5 million registered members and coordinators nationwide, supported by internal membership data.
On allegations involving Ughulu and the Lagos State primaries, Sani called for clarification and said the movement would defend its members against what it considers unjustified attacks.
She urged the NDC national chairman to withdraw statements she described as defamatory and apologise to the movement and Ughulu.
