President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally constituted the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general election, naming former Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari as Director-General.
The development marks the official launch of the ruling party’s national campaign machinery as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu will serve as Chairman of the campaign council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, will serve as Vice Chairmen.
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, was appointed Secretary of the council. APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, will serve as Deputy Secretary, while former Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, Hadiza Bala-Usman, was named Assistant Secretary.
The campaign council also features several high-profile party leaders and government officials in strategic positions.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni were appointed Deputy Directors-General overseeing regional campaign operations.
Former APC National Chairman and Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, was named Deputy Director-General for Mobilisation, while the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, will coordinate administrative operations as Deputy Director-General for Administration.
Also appointed is House of Representatives member James Faleke, who returns to a key campaign role as Deputy Director-General for Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring, having played a prominent role in Tinubu’s successful 2023 presidential campaign.
The council includes an advisory body comprising some of the APC’s most influential leaders, including former Interim National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande, former Osun State Governor Chief Olusegun Osoba, former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu, and former Senator Florence Ita-Giwa.
Political observers view the early constitution of the campaign council as a signal of the ruling party’s determination to consolidate its political structures and begin preparations well ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
The announcement comes amid increasing political realignments and early maneuvering by major political parties as the race for the next presidential election gradually gathers momentum.
