The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms and rainfall across several parts of Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday, with possible strong winds preceding some storms.
In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, the agency advised residents to take precautions in areas expected to experience thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.
On Monday, NiMet predicted morning thunderstorms with light rain over parts of Taraba and Kebbi states, followed later by scattered thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across parts of the North-East, Kaduna, Taraba and Kebbi.
In the North-Central, thunderstorms with light rain are expected over parts of Niger State in the morning, while most parts of the region could experience moderate rainfall in the afternoon or evening.
The southern region is expected to remain cloudy in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms and light rain over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River. More thunderstorms are expected later in the day.
For Tuesday, NiMet forecast thunderstorms and light rain over parts of Taraba, while moderate rainfall is expected across much of the northern region later in the day. The FCT, Niger, Nasarawa and Plateau are also expected to experience thunderstorms and moderate rain.
On Wednesday, thunderstorms and moderate rainfall are expected over parts of Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Adamawa and Taraba, with further rainfall forecast across much of the North and southern regions.
NiMet urged residents to secure loose objects, avoid driving during heavy rainfall, disconnect electrical appliances during thunderstorms and stay away from tall trees.
The agency also advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for operational planning.
