Spearheaded by Chief Godwin Obla, SAN, the initiative also includes improvements to hospital walkways, an emergency paediatric ward, a renovated male surgical ward and a high-resolution mobile X-ray machine, in a collective effort to strengthen healthcare infrastructure serving Benue South and neighbouring communities.
The foundation’s contribution includes the construction and furnishing of the amenity ward, installation of the solar power system, a walkway linking the new ward to Ward One, and the renovation of the Judith Obla Renal Dialysis Centre.

The dialysis centre is equipped with six machines intended to support treatment for patients with kidney disease. Sustaining these services will require adequate staffing, medical consumables, regular equipment maintenance and reliable operational support.
Other benefactors have contributed to the hospital’s improvement. Engr. Agaba Ikwue has undertaken the construction, equipping and furnishing of an Emergency Paediatric Ward, while Architect Akor Adapoyi has supported the renovation, equipping and furnishing of the Male Surgical Ward.
Maj. Gen. Alechenu Mike Alechenu has contributed to the rehabilitation of a section of the hospital walkway, while Dr. Joshua Musa, SAN, has donated a high-resolution digital mobile X-ray machine to strengthen diagnostic services.
Together, the interventions cover patient accommodation, paediatric emergency care, surgical services, diagnostic imaging, electricity supply and access within the hospital.
The initiative highlights the role of private philanthropy in complementing government efforts to improve public healthcare. Obla’s leadership also demonstrates how successful professionals and other accomplished Idoma indigenes can contribute to community development by investing in essential services.
The commissioning ceremony is expected to attract political leaders, traditional rulers, academics and healthcare professionals. Benue State Deputy Governor, Barr. Sam Ode, is scheduled to attend as Special Guest of Honour, alongside Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro; Tertiary Education Trust Fund Executive Secretary, Arc. Sunny Echono; and Benue State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Paul Ogwuche.
Other expected dignitaries include Prof. John Idoko, former Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS; Prof. Yakubu Ochefu, President-General of Ochetoha K’Idoma and Chairman of the Idoma League of Professors.
Also expected to grace the occasion are Prof. Saad Ahmed, Chairman of the Committee of Chief Medical Directors and Medical Directors of Federal Tertiary Hospitals; Mr Raymond Omanchi of the Federal Ministry of Finance; and Dr. E. I. Odu, Senior Special Assistant to the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare.
The hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Prof. Teddy Eyaofun Agida, will serve as Chief Host, while Otukpo Local Government Chairman, Hon. Maxwell Ogiri, will host the ceremony. The Och’Idoma V, His Royal Majesty, John Elaigwu Odogbo, CON, is the Royal Father of the Day.
The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, October 30, at the teaching hospital in Otukpo.
The long-term value of the projects will depend on effective management, adequate staffing and sustained maintenance. If properly supported, the new facilities and equipment could strengthen patient care and improve the hospital’s capacity to serve Benue South and surrounding communities.
For the Idoma nation, the initiative offers a practical example of how philanthropy can complement public investment and inspire further contributions to community development.
