Gunmen have carried out a deadly attack in the Sabon Gari community, located in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, resulting in the loss of nine lives and the destruction of six houses.
The incident was disclosed by Mr. Jerry Datim, a community leader and National President of the Global Society for Middle Belt Heritage.
The attack occurred on Saturday night, with several properties also being destroyed. While nine bodies have been recovered, the search for missing individuals is ongoing.
Datim commended the swift response of Operation Rainbow, a local security outfit in the state, for their efforts in bringing the situation under control.
He appealed to the government to provide necessary logistics support to enable prompt response by the security personnel.
Captain James Oya, the spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a Special Military Task Force, confirmed the incident.
Although the exact number of deaths was not confirmed, Oya stated that Major-General Abdusalam Abubakar, the Commander of the Operation, was leading troops to the scene of the attack.
Gunmen had on June 12 killed 21 persons during coordinated on residents of Rim, Jol, Kwi communities of Riyom LGA as well as Gana-Ropp community in Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau State.
According to media reports, two people were killed in Rim village, seven in Jol, eleven in Kwi all in Riyom LGA; while a clergyman, Rev. Nicodemus Kim was killed in Gana-Ropp community of Barkin Ladi LGA of the state.
