New AltBox initiative targets financial inclusion, primary healthcare access and grassroots economic development in Agege.
LAGOS — alt bank is set to launch six integrated banking and primary healthcare centres in Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State, in a move aimed at expanding financial inclusion and improving access to essential community services.
The centres, known as AltBoxes, will be unveiled on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, under a partnership between the bank and the Agege Local Government, led by its Executive Chairman, Hon. Abdul-Ganiyu Vinod Obasa.
The launch, scheduled for 11 a.m., will bring together representatives of the bank, local government officials, community stakeholders and residents.
Each AltBox will feature two dedicated service sections: one for banking and the other for primary healthcare. The arrangement is designed to provide residents, traders and small business owners with convenient access to financial and basic healthcare services within their communities.
The initiative also seeks to stimulate local economic participation through employment opportunities associated with the centres.
According to the bank, the six facilities represent the first phase of a wider plan to establish an integrated AltBox in each of Agege’s seven wards, extending the reach of the services across the local government area.
The initiative reflects the growing role of financial institutions in supporting community-level development beyond conventional banking operations.
For alt bank, bringing banking services closer to underserved communities is part of its financial inclusion strategy, particularly in expanding access to the formal financial system.
The healthcare component complements the financial services by addressing another essential community need. The bank said the intervention aligns with its HEART strategy, which recognises healthcare as a key area of community investment.
The Agege project also highlights the potential of public-private collaboration in delivering services that respond to local development priorities.
alt bank said it remained open to partnerships with other local and state governments interested in adopting similar models to improve access to primary healthcare and financial services.
Established in January 2014 as a non-interest banking window within Sterling Bank, alt bank became a standalone financial institution in July 2023 after receiving a banking licence from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The bank operates in accordance with non-interest banking principles under the supervision of its Advisory Committee of Experts.
