APC stages a protest march in Ibadan

Reminiscent of its classic opposition antics, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, on Monday, embarked on a protest over the alleged victimisation of its lawmaker in the state assembly. The protests march was staged across major roads in Ibadan over in respect of Mr Ibraheem Shittu whom it alleged was being victimised by the state government. Shittu (APC- Saki West State Constituency), the party claimed, had a fortnight ago raised alarm over an approval granted to Gov. Seyi Makinde by the legislature to secure a loan of of N300 billion. The protest, which began at the party’s secretariat in Oke Ado, drew large turnout of APC members and supporters, led by the State Chairman, Alhaji Olayide Abas. The protesters, who carried placards and chanted solidarity songs, marched from the party’s secretariat at Oke Ado to Dugbe, Mokola and back to Oke-Ado , demanding immediate protection for Shittu. The APC chairman said that the lawmaker had since raising the alarm had received several threat messages, prompting fears for his safety, thus sparking the protest. Abas insisted that the protest was to express solidarity with Shittu, describing him as courageous for standing against what the party termed “reckless borrowing.” “We are here to tell the governor not to send Oyo into perpetual debt. What happened to earlier loans?” Abas asked while addressing journalists at the secretariat. He said the APC would not fold its arms while its member is allegedly harassed, stressing that the party was fully behind Shittu’s stance against the loan deal. “I have the protest letter here, he should not be victimised.” The APC chairman vowed to resist any attempt to silence opposition voices, declaring that “the process to take over Oyo has started.” The protest was monitored by security operatives including the police to prevent its hijack by hoodlums.
Oyo APC Chairman Dies

The All Progressives Congress Chairman in Oyo State, Hon. Isaac Omodewu is dead. He reportedly died in the United States of America on Sunday, 16th August, 2024. Details of his death are still unknown at the moment, however, there have been speculations surrounding his health within the party in recent times. It was reported that Omodewu was critically ill and was admitted to a United States hospital late last year. The APC Public Secretary in Oyo state, Wale Sadare, confirmed his death to Channels Television in a telephone conversation on Monday. According to him, Omodewu died in the early hours of Sunday at the age of 61. Sadare added that the deceased had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment in the U.S. but eventually lost the battle to the cold hands of death. He added that the family is yet to come up with burial plans.
3 Die As OPC, Amotekun Clash In Oyo

A violent clash which erupted in Iwerele, Iwajowa Local Government Area of Oyo State, involving multiple groups including the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Amotekun, Operation Burst, Soludero, and a group of herdsmen, has resulted in three dead and many casualties. The cause of the conflict remains unknown. Confirming the clash, a prominent titled Chief in the community revealed that the turmoil began when a group of herdsmen invaded a local farm with their cattle, leading to a dispute that tragically claimed the life of the farm’s owner. Responding to the escalating situation, combined security forces consisting of Operation Burst, OPC, Amotekun, and Soludero were called in to restore peace to the area. Reports suggest that these security operatives were ambushed by the herdsmen during their intervention efforts. The exact number of casualties resulting from this conflict is yet to be determined, as the situation continues to develop.
