NiMet Predicts 3-Day Sunny, Thundery Weather Conditions From Monday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted sunny and thundery weather conditions from Monday to Wednesday across the country. NiMet’s weather outlook released in Abuja predicted sunny skies over the northern region on Monday with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Taraba during the afternoon and evening periods. According to it, sunny skies with patches of clouds are anticipated over the North Central region with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of the FCT, Benue, Nasarawa and Kogi states during the afternoon and evening hours. “Cloudy skies with spells of sunshine are expected over the southern region with prospects of morning thunderstorms over parts of Cross River, Bayelsa, Rivers and Akwa Ibom. “Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are expected over parts of Osun, Oyo, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Ondo, Edo, Imo, Anambra, Enugu, Abia, Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River,’’ it stated. The agency anticipated sunny skies and hazy conditions on Tuesday over the northern region with prospects of afternoon and evening thunderstorms over parts of Taraba. According to NiMet, sunny skies with patches of clouds are anticipated over the North Central region with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Benue, Kwara and Kogi during the afternoon and evening hours. “Cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are expected over the southern region with prospects of morning thunderstorms over parts of Rivers, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom. “Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are expected over parts of Ondo, Edo, Ekiti, Oyo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River,’’ it stated. The agency anticipated sunny skies with patches of clouds over the North Central region in the morning hours of Wednesday. “Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Benue and Kogi. “Cloudy skies with spells of sunshine are expected over the South with isolated thunderstorms over parts of Imo, Ondo, Edo, Enugu, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Akwa lbom and Cross River during the afternoon and evening hours. “The public is advised to take necessary precautions due to dust particles presently in suspension in the atmosphere,’’ it stated. The agency urged individuals with respiratory ailments to protect themselves as the current dusty weather condition could have adverse effect on their health. According to it, strong winds are likely to precede and accompany the thunderstorms. Citizens are advised to take necessary safety precautions. “All airline operators are advised to avail themselves of weather reports and alerts periodically from NiMet for effective planning of their operations,’’ it stressed.

NiMet’s weather outlook released in Abuja predicted dust haze on Wednesday over the northern region with visibility range of 2km to 5Km, especially in a few states like Kano, Katsina, Kaduna and Jigawa during the forecast period. The agency said that sunny spells with few patches of clouds were anticipated over the North Central during the morning hours. “Later in the day, hazy atmosphere with few patches of cloud is expected over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, Niger and Benue states. “The atmosphere over the southern parts of the country should be cloudy with intervals of sunshine, while morning thunderstorms are anticipated over Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states. “Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are expected over parts of Ondo, Edo, Abia, Enugu, Anambra, Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states,” it said. The agency envisaged dust haze over the northern region during the forecast period on Thursday. It anticipated sunny skies with patches of clouds over the North Central in the morning hours. “Hazy atmosphere with few patches of clouds are expected over parts of Kwara, Plateau and Kogi states. However, we expect morning thunderstorms over parts of Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states. “Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are expected over parts of Oyo, Osun, Ekiti,Anambra, Imo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states,” it said. The agency forecast thunderstorms and moderate rains over parts of Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ondo, Oyo, Edo, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States later in the day. According to NiMet, cloudy skies with sunshine intervals are anticipated over the Northern region on Tuesday with chances of thunderstorms over parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Sokoto, Kano, Gombe, Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara and Bauchi States in the morning hours. It predicted thunderstorms over parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe and Kaduna States during the afternoon/evening hours. “Cloudy skies are anticipated over the North Central region with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara and Niger States. “Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, Nasarawa, Niger and Plateau States. “Cloudy atmosphere is expected over inland states of South and its coast with chances of isolated rains over parts of Ebonyi, Enugu, Abia, Osun, Oyo, Ogun, Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, Edo, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States during the morning hours.” It anticipated thunderstorms over the entire Southern region in the afternoon and evening hours. The agency forecast cloudy skies on Wednesday with sunshine intervals over the Northern region in the morning hours. According to it, there are prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Kaduna, Taraba and Adamawa States later in the day. It predicted cloudy morning over the North Central region during the morning hours. “Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Benue, Niger, Plateau, Nasarawa States and the Federal Capital Territory. “Cloudy atmosphere is expected over the inland areas of the South and its coastal states during the morning hours. In the afternoon/evening hours, thunderstorms along with moderate rains are envisaged over the entire region. “Moderate to heavy rainfall could lead to flash floods. The public is advised to take necessary caution, avoid driving and walking through flood waters,” it said. According to NiMet, strong winds are likely to precede and accompany the thunderstorms, citizens are advised to take necessary safety precautions. The agency further advised disaster risk managers, agencies and individuals to be proactive to avert loss of lives and property during the rainy season. Besides, the agency urged all Airline operators to avail themselves of weather reports and alerts periodically from NiMet for effective planning for their operations.

NiMet forecast cloudy atmosphere over inland and coastal cities of South, with prospects of rains over parts of Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Enugu, Anambra, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states in the morning hours. It predicted intermittent rains over parts of Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Cross River later in the day. NiMet envisaged cloudy skies on Sunday with sunshine intervals over the northern region with prospects of morning thunderstorms over parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe and Bauchi states. “Later in the day, thunderstorms with strong winds and rains are anticipated across the region. “Cloudy atmosphere is expected over the North central region in the morning hours with chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Niger, Nasarawa, and the Federal Capital Territory. “Later in the day, widespread thunderstorms and rains are expected over the region,” it said. According to it, cloudy atmosphere is expected over the inland states of the South and the coastal states in the morning hours. The agency forecast intermittent rains over parts of Ebonyi, Abia, Anambra, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states. It further forecast intermittent rains over most parts of the region later in the day. NiMet advised all Airline operators to avail themselves of weather reports and alerts periodically from its office for effective planning for their operations. “Moderate to heavy rainfall could lead to flash floods.
