NJC raises alarm over alleged bid to defraud retired Judicial officers

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has raised an alarm over alleged incessant bids by a group of fraudsters to defraud retired Judicial officers across the country. According to the NJC, the alleged fraudsters have been bombarding its retired Judicial officers with phone calls demanding for various sums of money to help them fast track payment of their retirement benefits. In a statement signed in Abuja on Sunday, by its Director of Information, Barrister Soji Oye, thr council dissociated itself from the actions of the alleged fraudsters and pleaded with retired Judicial officers not to fall victims of the unscrupulous people. The statement read in part “The attention of the National Judicial Council has been drawn to the incessant phone calls being made to retired Judicial Officers by some unscrupulous individuals demanding payments to fast track the processing of their retirement benefits. “The National Judicial Council by this medium, informs retired Judicial Officers and members of the public to disregard such phone calls as NJC would never demand money from any Judicial Officer to fast track the payment of his retirement benefit. “The public is hereby advised to be wary of and report such calls to the Pension Department of the Council for appropriate action”, the statement said.
Supreme Court Justices Reduced to 10 as Musa Dattijo Retires October 27

The Supreme Court of Nigeria will see its number of justices reduced to 10 following the retirement of Justice Musa Dattijo Muhammad on October 27, 2023. Justice Dattijo’s retirement notice, sent to the Court’s management, specifies that a special valedictory court session will be held in his honor on the retirement date. The Court’s Director of Press and Information, Dr. Akande Festus, announced in a statement on Sunday that the valedictory session is scheduled to take place at the Main Courtroom of the Court at 10 am. Born on October 27, 1953, in Minna, Justice Musa Dattijo, hailing from Chanchaga Local Government Area of Niger State, attended Native Primary School, Minna, earning his First School Leaving Certificate between 1960 and 1966. He later attended Sheikh Sabbah College (now Sardauna Memorial Secondary School) in Kaduna from 1967 to 1971. This led to his admission to the Faculty of Law at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained a degree in Law in 1977. Justice Dattijo was called to the Nigerian Bar on July 2, 1977, but he didn’t stop there. In 1982, he sought further education and earned an LLM Degree from Warwick University in 1983. His exemplary career led to his elevation to the Court of Appeal on November 21, 1998, having served diligently in various Divisions. He was sworn in as a Justice of the Supreme Court on July 10, 2012, marking another significant milestone in his career. WAEC Nigeria Gets New Head As Areghan Retires

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has appointed Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut as the new Head of the Nigeria National Office, succeeding Patrick Areghan, who has completed his tenure. This significant leadership change within WAEC was officially announced in a statement released by the examination body on Monday. Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, born on October 2, 1967, in Mbar District of Bokkos Local Government Area in Plateau State, boasts a rich history of service in various prominent roles at WAEC before his recent promotion. The statement from WAEC provides an overview of Dangut’s previous positions: he served as an Assistant Registrar/Subject Officer in the Test Development Division of WAEC in Lagos from July 1998 to January 2005. Subsequently, he held the roles of Senior Assistant Registrar/Head of Examinations Security and Deputy to the Branch Controller at the Uyo Branch Office from January 2005 to January 2008, followed by a similar role at the Bauchi Branch Office from January 2008 to December 2011. Dangut also served as Senior Assistant Registrar/Branch Controller at the Yola Branch Office from December 2011 to January 2019, and later as Deputy Registrar/Controller in the Post Examinations Department from January 2019 to October 2020. Finally, he took on the role of Deputy Registrar/Zonal Coordinator at the Ikeja Zonal Office. Dangut’s educational journey began at Government Secondary School, Riyom, where he attended from 1981 to 1983, and continued at Government Science School, Kuru, from 1983 to 1986. It was at the latter institution that he obtained his WASC/SC in 1986, both of which were located in Plateau State. He then pursued higher education at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State, and earned a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production in 1991. Over the past 25 years, Dangut has harnessed the power of information and communications technology to bring innovative improvements to processes related to test development, test administration, and post-test activities within WAEC. Moreover, Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut is recognized as a distinguished scholar with an array of educational publications featured in both international and national journals.
Former Arsenal star, Cesc Fabregas announces retirement

Former Barcelona, Arsenal, and Chelsea star, Cesc Fabregas has announced his retirement from football as he prepares to move into coaching. Fabregas announced that he is bringing the curtain down on a glittering career and will move into coaching with Como, the Serie B club he played for last season. He will move on to coaching their B and youth teams, according to the Daily Telegraph. Fabregas enjoyed a hugely successful playing career, winning the FA Cup with Arsenal after becoming their youngest-ever player, and he went on to win La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Club World Cup at Barcelona, as well as the FA Cup and two Premier League titles with Chelsea. He also won both the World Cup and the European Championship with Spain. Announcing his retirement, Fabregas said: “It is with great sadness that the time has come for me to hang up my playing boots. “From my first days at Barca, Arsenal, Barca again, Chelsea, Monaco and Como, I will treasure them all. “From lifting the World Cup, the Euros, to winning everything in England and Spain and nearly all the European trophies, it has been a journey that I’ll never forget. “All those who have helped me, my teammates, coaches, directors, presidents, owners, fans, and my agent. To all my family, from my parents and my sister to my wife and kids, I cherish your advice, mentorship, and guidance. To my opponents who tried to knock me, thank you for making me stronger. “It has already been more than worth it with all the great memories and friends that I have made on the way. I’ve also learnt 3 languages and became more compassionate and wiser along my travels. I lived experiences that I never thought in a million years I would even come close to.” Fabregas will hope to earn his stripes at Como before potentially making the move into management down the line.
