Hardship: FCT Police to deploy 4,200 officers, vow to resist violent protest

By Doris Isreal Ijeoma The FCT Police Command announced on Friday that in anticipation of a planned nationwide protest by human rights activists and Nigerian youths against hunger and hardship, it has proactively deployed both material and human resources across the nation’s capital. “The proactive deployment aims to ensure public safety, protect protesters, and prevent protests from being hijacked by non-state actors. “It includes visibility policing and the deployment of explosive ordnance device (EOD) experts and personnel at various strategic locations. “Additionally, operatives will conduct raids on identified black spots, uncompleted buildings, and shanties. They will also engage in stop-and-search operations, vehicular and foot patrols, and maintain synergy with sister security agencies. The Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth Igweh, while acknowledging the residents’ right to protest, advises that protests should remain peaceful. JUST IN: Two Officers Killed As Gunmen Attack Police Checkpoint In Abia

Two officers of the Nigeria Police Force were reportedly murdered on Friday night when a group of dangerous criminals attacked a police checkpoint at the well-known Opobo Junction, near the Aba-Ikot Ekpene Expressway in Abia State. Another officer reportedly sustained some injuries from the attack, which unsettled residents of the area. It was reported that the police were stationed at the junction for their regular evening patrol before the assailants attacked them. A witness described how the attackers, who were armed and dangerous, arrived in a Sienna SUV. He explained that just a few minutes into the police officers’ regular night shift, multiple police squads arrived in the area as people began to evacuate the scene. SaharaReporters quoted the witness as saying that the event led to widespread panic, forcing local businesses and market vendors to shut down, with some even leaving their goods behind to find safety. The latest attack on security officials is coming a month after gunmen attacked a military checkpoint at the Obikabia Junction in Aba, Abia State. The attackers, who also set fire to the military vehicle, were believed to be carrying out the sit-at-home order issued by IPOB across the Southeast region to commemorate Biafra Day, a holiday celebrated in the area every year. The heavily armed individuals, dressed in black, were reportedly spotted firing at the junction intermittently.
Civil Defence decorates newly promoted officers in Jigawa

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command, has decorated officers recently promoted to various ranks during the 2022 Senior Officers promotion. A statement signed by the spokesperson of the Command, Mr Adamu Shehu, made this known on Saturday. He said that the decoration took place on Friday with two officers promoted to Deputy Commandants, six Superintendents of Corps and three Assistant Supretendents of Corps. Others included 1 Deputy Superintendent of Corps, 11 Assistant Superintendents of Corps and 18 Inspectors of Corps promoted to Assistant Supreintendents of Corps. While congratulating the newly decorated officers, the State Commandant, Mr Musa Malah, in the statement, charged them to discharge their duties to reciprocate the gesture. He further commended the Commandant General of the Corps, Mr Ahmed Abubakar-Audi, for his commitment and determination in improving personnel welfare. The statement revealed that while responding on behalf of the newly decorated officers, the Head of Finance, Mr Shehu Bakari, assured the State Commandant of their resolve to give their best in their places of assignments. They vowed to continue protecting the interest of the corps wherever they found themselves.
