A Kano High Court presided by Justice Amina Aliyu has restrained the police, the State Security Service, SSS and Nigerian military from evicting the reinstated Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II. The case was filed by the emir alongside the four kingmakers of Kano: Madakin Kano Yusuf Nabahani; Makaman Kano Ibrahim Sarki Abdullahi; Sarkin Bai Mansur Adnan and Sarkin Dawaki Maituta Bello Tuta. Granting the order, Justice Aliyu also retrained the security agencies from arresting or harassing the emir and his kingmakers.
Bandits storm Buhari’s home state, kill several villagers

The Katsina police command has confirmed that bandits attacked three villages in Bakori Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of 11 people. Police spokesman Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu announced this in a statement on Sunday. “We are aware of a misleading report making the rounds, especially on Facebook, that bandits attacked three villages in Bakori and killed 40 people. The command wishes to categorically debunk this claim as misleading and set the record straight,” the police statement said. It added, “On May 25, 2024, bandits launched an attack on Unguwar Lamido village in Bakori where they shot and killed 11 people. The Divisional Police Officer in Bakori, on receiving the information, quickly mobilised operatives and rushed to the scene where they successfully restored normalcy and prevented further losses.” The command urged the public to disregard the false report, warned against circulating unverified news, and advised them to always verify information through official channels before sharing, as the spread of false information could cause panic, fear, and unnecessary tension. “The commissioner has also ordered a thorough investigation into the incident and deployed additional personnel to ensure the arrest of the perpetrators. The commissioner has also urged anyone with useful information that will assist the investigation to come forward and assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice. “The investigation is ongoing; the command is working closely with relevant stakeholders and members of the community to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack,” the police command said.
Police Arrest, Detain Another Editor in Abuja

Police operatives have arrested the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Global Upfront newspapers (Online), Madu Onuorah, in Abuja. It was gathered that Onuorah was arrested by the police at about 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. About ten fully armed policemen in two Sienna buses were said to have stormed his residence in the Lugbe area of Abuja. The management of Globalupfront Newspapers, in a statement on Wednesday, said the Editor was arrested in the presence of his wife and children who fruitlessly demanded from the police why they were arresting the head of the family. The organisation added: “The police have seized Onuorah’s phones, thereby completely cutting him off from communication with people, including his family members. “He was not even allowed to contact his lawyer or any of his relations before he was whisked away to the Lugbe police station by the stern-looking operatives. “To make sure Mr. Onuorah did not get attention or bail, the policemen who arrested him, though not of the Lugbe Police Station, simply dumped him at the Station and left no traces for friends and family members to reach them.” The management said the police should release Onuorah “immediately and unconditionally”. The platform noted: “Mr. Onuorah is an experienced Journalist, former Abuja Bureau Chief of The Guardian Newspaper, former Managing Director of The AUTHORITY Newspaper, who operates within the ambit of the law. “Anybody who has any issue against Mr Onuorah should approach the law court and not turn the Nigerian Police into a Gestapo outfit that bullies a man in the presence of his wife and children. “Any second Mr Onuorah spends in police custody constitutes a serious infringement against his fundamental rights and a continuation of the assault on freedom of expression that has become frequent occurrence in Nigeria recently.”
Abba Kyari Granted Bail After 27 Months In Prison

Abba Kyari has been granted bail following 27 months of being held in detention. An Abuja Federal High Court has approved a two-week bail for DCP Abba Kyari, the former commander of the Force Intelligence Response Team, following his 27-month detention. Kyari is anticipated to complete the funeral ceremonies for his late mother, Yachilla Kyari. The court has scheduled Friday, May 31st, as the date to decide on his bail application in the ongoing trial involving drug-related charges brought forth by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. This legal matter stems from his arrest over two years ago on February 14, 2022. The mother passed away on the morning of Sunday, May 5, 2024. She is survived by 10 children, consisting of five boys and five girls. Among them is Abba, who is the eldest son.
Man caught ‘strapped with bomb’ in Plateau bank

A group of men caught a yet-to-be-identified man who reportedly tried to detonate a bomb within the premises of a bank in Plateau State. The incident reportedly took place on Monday, May 13, in Dadin Kowa town in the Jos South area of the state. According to a post by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X on Tuesday, the vigilante security at the bank thwarted the attack when they noticed the suspect. Angered by the situation, a mob attacked the suspect and reportedly demanded his execution. It is unclear whether the suspect has ties to any terrorist organization in the country. 3 Dead As Thugs Engage In Supremacy Battle In Kano

Three people were killed during a fight which erupted between rival gangs in Darmanawa quarters, Tarauni Local government area of Kano on Sunday evening. Trouble started after one Muhammad Barde,59, organise Gangi event (Cultural event for local hunters) to celebrate wedding of his children. Thugs had taken advantage of the activity to engage in supremacy battle in the area. Many of them brandished dangerous weapons and within minutes, fight broke out. Commenting on the incident, Police Public relations Officer in Kano, SP Haruna Kiyawa, said the police responded to a distressed call and dispersed the armed hoodlums. However, few hours after the fight continued among the armed thugs, leading to confrontation with the police. Kiyawa said this led to the death of one Sadiq Abdulkadir, 23 of Darmanawa quarters and Muhammad Sani, 22, of Sallari quarters. Kiyawa said police commissioner Usaini Gumel ordered immediate arrest of the organiser of the event along with two others. A teenager Sadiq Abdullahi ,18, of Karkasara quarters was said to have died from bullet wounds when police were trying to disperse the thugs, according to residents. Father of the boy, Mallam Abdullahi Yasayyadi, said he was in school when he was called to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital to confirm the identity of his son who died after bullet hit him in the stomach. The bereaved Yasayyadi said he had left everything to God. The police said full scale investigation will be conducted and findings made public
Gunmen shoot FIRS official dead in Abuja

Some unknown gunmen have reportedly shot dead a middle-aged man, identified as Khalid Bichi, in Maitama, Abuja, on Friday night. Bichi, said to be an employee of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, was reportedly killed by his attackers just before 9 pm while he was out to get food, the Guardian reports. He was reportedly shot multiple times. He was afterwards rushed to Maitama General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. According to sources, Bichi was known for being active on social media with the username @Khalid Bichi and had connections with influential politicians. The deceased will be laid to rest today at 1:30 pm following a funeral prayer at Abuja National.

Gunmen kill three Oil workers in Edo

Unknown gunmen have reportedly killed three staff of Okomu Oil Palm Company Plc located in Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State. The staff were reportedly killed while working on the plantation. The Public Relations officer of the company, Fidelis Olise, who confirmed the incident, alleged that the killing was done by unknown persons. Olise, who said the company enjoys a cordial relationship with the communities in the area, noted that he could not say whether the perpetuators are members of the host communities. He said that the incident has been reported to the police and investigation has commenced. “I can confirm to you that three of our staff were killed by gunmen on Monday while they were working on our plantation. “We enjoy cordial relationship with the communities around us and we cannot say whether members of the communities were involved. “However, the matter has been reported to the police and we hope justice will be done,” he added. The state Commissioner of Police, CP Funsho Adegboye, who also confirmed the incident, said more personnel have been deployed by the State Command to the area to forestall a repeat of the attack. Adegboye, who described the incident as shocking, wondered why gunmen could carry out such attack, just as he alleged that the attackers were from a neighbouring state. He noted that efforts were on to arrest the culprits and bring them to book. The CP also said that the police were working with the management of Okomu Oil to perfect ways of making the environment safer for its staff at all times. “Preliminary findings showed that the gunmen came from the creek in a neighbouring state, which I would not like to mention. The attack is shocking. “However, more men have been deployed to the area to forestall a repeat, while the police in conjunction with Okomu is working to ensure that the culprits are arrested. “We will not allow such an occurrence to happen in the state again,” he added.
Gunmen Kidnap 6 Anambra Clerics

Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen have reportedly abducted Archbishop Uka Uka Osim of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star. The cleric, his wife, Anne Osim and son, Roland Uka Osim, and three other clerics from the ministry were abducted on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, in Abia State while travelling to Awka, the capital of Anambra State. They were reportedly on evangelical duties when they were ambushed by the armed men. The other three priests also kidnapped were identified as Azuka Ochu, Moses Okafor and Anderson Akwazie. The kidnapping incident was confirmed to journalists by the administrator of the spiritual organisation in Abia State, BCS, Bishop Denis Onuoha. He said four days later, the abductors had not reached out to anybody. “We are very worried, but we are assured that the Almighty Father, whom they worship and work for with total devotion, will help them out,” Bishop Onuoha told reporters. The cleric urged security agencies to assist and rescue the clergymen, stating that the church has embarked on deep prayers, believing that the Archbishop and his brethren will be rescued unhurt.
