Nigeria’s Equity Market Rakes In N564bn

Nigeria’s equity market on Thursday rebounded and gained N140 billion following gains recorded by small and medium stocks in the market. Market capitalisation of listed equities increased by 0.38 per cent to N36.526 trillion from N36.386 trillion reported the previous day. The NGX All Share Index also appreciated by 87.91 basis points to 66570.19 points from 66482.28 points traded on Wednesday. A review of the trading activities showed that Wema Bank led the gainers table in percentage terms, gaining 9.93 per cent to N4.65 per share, Thomas Way followed with a gain of 9.74 per cent to close at N2.14 per share, Regal insurance added 8.82 per cent to close at N0.37 per unit, Daar Communications and Royal Express increased by 8.70 per cent to close respectively to N0.25 per share and N0.50 Kobo per unit. On the contrary, Champion Breweries topped losers’ chart, shedding 9.87 per cent to close at N3.38 per share, Chellaram trailed with a loss of 9.84 per cent to close at N3.48 per unit, ABC Transport fell by 9.72 per cent to close at N0.65 per unit, APDC dropped by 8.57 per cent to close at N1.28 per share, MCNICHOLS dipped by 7.69 per cent to close at N0.60 per unit. Volume of trades increased by 356.485 million, representing a growth 54.22 percent as investors exchanged 1.014 billion shares valued at N4.733 billion in 6959 deals against 657.515 million shares worth N4.597 billion made in 6647 deals the previous day. Transactions in the shares of Neimeth international Pharmaceutical led market activities with 657.094 million shares valued at N985.649 million, Oando Plc followed with account of 75.146 million shares cost N771.243 million, Fidelity Bank traded 35.143 million shares cost N288.091 million, Sterling Bank exchanged 24.430 million shares worth N87.369 million while Ellah Lakes traded 19.018 million shares valued at N76.074 million.

Nigeria’s domestic equity market on Wednesday took a positive turn, gaining N358 billion as profits recorded in the shares of Dangote Sugar, Transnational Corporation of Nigeria, United Bank for Africa, AccessCorp, Oando Plc and others impacted positively on the market. The market capitalisation of listed equities gained 0.98 per cent to N36.896 trillion from N36.538 trillion reported the previous day. The NGX All Share Index also appreciated by 654.20 basis points to 67414.40 points from 66760.20 points traded on Tuesday.A review of the investment during the day showed that four companies closed trading for the day with 10 percent gain. Dangote Sugar Refinery, Nahco, United Capital, and Nascon  led gainers table, growing by 10 per cent each to close at N57.20 per unit, N23.65, N16.50 and N51.70 per share respectively, Transnational Corporation of Nigeria followed with a gain of 9.98 per cent to close at N6.61 per unit. On the contrary, Courtvellle Business Solutions topped losers’ chart with a drop of 10 per cent to close at N0.54 per unit, ABC Transport trailed with a loss of 9.80 per cent to close at N0.92 per unit, Tantalizer fell by 9.30 per cent to close at N0.39 per share, Learn Africa depreciated by 8.51 per cent to close at N3.01 per unit while Regal insurance dipped by 8.33 per cent to close at N0.33 per unit. The volume of activities declined by 75.914 million representing a drop of 11.76 per cent as investors exchanged 569.626 million shares valued at N8.697 billion in 8404 deals against 645.540 million shares cost N11.014 billion exchanged hands the previous day in 10554 deals. Transactions in the shares of Oando led market activities with 143.445 million shares valued at N1.395 billion, AccessCorp followed with account of 63.556 million shares worth N1.070 billion, Fidelity Bank traded 39.553 million shares cost N313.782 million, Transcorps exchanged 32.610 million shares worth N209.175 million while 30.676 million shares valued at N464.755 million.

Transactions on the floor of the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) on Wednesday closed on a positive note, appreciating by N41 billion.  The market capitalisation of listed equity appreciated by 0.12 percent to N34.973 trillion from N34.932 trillion reported the previous day. The NGX All Share Index also increased 75.16 basis points to 64267.36 points from 64192.20 points traded the previous day. A review of the investment showed that Nascon, Chams Plc, and Abbey Building Society led the gainers’ table in percentage terms, gaining 10 percent to close at N35.75 per share, N0.99 and N1.21 per share respectively. Skyways Aviation Handling followed with a gain of 9.96 percent to close at N28.15 per share, and Dangote Sugar Refinery added 9.93 percent to close at N32.65 per unit. On the other hand, Thomas Way and TIP topped the losers’ chart with a drop of 10 percent each to close at N1.17 and N0.72 per share respectively. UPL trailed with a loss of 9.78 percent to close at N2.49 per unit, Omatek fell by 9.76 percent to close at N0.37 per share, JohnHolt was down by 9.44 percent to close at N1.63 per share. Volume of trades declined by 431.313 million, representing 56.60 percent as investors traded 330.784 million shares valued at N4.269 billion in 6251 deals against 762.097 million shares worth N7.710 billion in 7935 deals. Trading activities on the shares of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorp) led market activities with 58.829 million shares worth N209.186 million, FBNHoldings followed with an account of 27.951 million shares cost N502.759 million, Ecobank Transnational Incorporate traded 21.303 million shares cost N330.246 million, AccessCorp exchanged 20.697 million shares cost N34.178 million while Chams Plc traded 16.964 million shares valued at N16.135 million.
