NSCDC Nabs 6 Suspected Vandals In Jigawa

The Nigeria Security and Civili Defense Corps (NSCDC) has arrested six suspects for alleged theft and vandalism in Dutse, Jigawa. The Spokesman of the Corps, CSC Adamu Shehu, who confirmed the arrest in Dutse, said the suspects were also apprehended over alleged theft of 30 ceiling fans. He said that personnel of ths Corps arrested the suspects on Monday November 6, following a tipoff. “Personnel of the Corps have arrested six suspects involved in vandalism, theft, criminal conspiracy and receiving stolen property. “Three suspects aged between 20 and 23, all students of Jigawa State Polytechnic, Dutse, were arrested on Nov. 6, following a report by the Zai-Galadimawa community that a burnt armoured cable suspected to be vandalised and kept in one particular compound was sighted,” he said. Shehu said that operatives of the Corps nabbed two of the suspects while trying to retrieve the vandalised cable from the site, adding that further investigation led to the arrest of the third suspected vandal. He said the suspects allegedly vandalised a 2HP 15KW submersible water pump, wiring and water pipes belonging to the Sahad Stores in Dutse. The spokesman said the suspects allegedly carted away 30 ceiling fans at a newly constructed hostel in the school. He said the Corps also arrested three other suspects who allegedly bought the vandalised items from the suspects, “Burnt armoured cable, electric wires, 25 ceiling fans and submersible water pump were recovered from the suspects,” adding that they would soon be charged to court.
Criminal Activities: Police Arrest 298 Suspects In Jigawa

The Police Command in Jigawa has arrested 298 suspects for alleged criminal activities in the third quarter of 2023. This is contained in a statement by the Spokesman of the Command, DSP Lawan Shiisu, on Wednesday in Dutse. He said the Police recovered 64 rustled animals, fire arms and rescued six kidnapped victims in special operations conducted within the period under review. Shiisu said the suspects were apprehended for alleged robbery; kidnapping, murder, rape, vandalism, animal rustling, fraud, among others. He listed the suspects to include 25 robbery; 12 kidnapping, 36 murder, 25 rape, 37 theft, 15 vandalism, 17 animal rustling and five over fraud, while 126 others arrested for allegedly belonging to gang of brigands. The Police, he said, recovered one AK-47 riffle; one Beretta pistol, three locally-made guns, 48 live ammunitions, 20 motor vehicles/cycles, and 64 rustled animals. Other items recovered include 560 parcels of Cannabis Sativa and a number of narcotic substances. “The crime prevention strategies adopted by Jigawa Police Command in the ongoing fight against all forms of crimes and criminalities in the state during the period under review, yielded dividends, as the state remained generally peaceful as residents go about their lawful businesses without fear of molestation. “This feat was made possible by the proactive measures put in place by the command, whose personnel worked tirelessly to checkmate the activities of criminals for a peaceful atmosphere,” he said. He commended the acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, the Jigawa government and other security agencies for their support to the Command While reiterating commitment of the Command to protect lives and property, Shiisu urged residents of the state to support the Police in the fight against crimes.
Jigawa Records 91 Cases Of Diphtheria, 10 Deaths

Jigawa State has recorded 91 suspected cases of diphtheria in 14 local government areas and it also suspects the loss of 10 children to the childhood infection. “There has been diphtheria outbreak in the northern parts of Nigeria in the last four months. “This is especially in neighbouring Kano, Yobe, Katsina and Bauchi states,’’ Permanent Secretary, Jigawa Ministry of Health, Dr Salisu Muazu, told newsmen on at the weekend in Dutse. “About two weeks ago, we received patients that had symptoms of diphtheria in 14 local government areas bordering states that already established the infection. “The National Reference Laboratory in Abuja confirmed two of the 91 suspected samples we sent to have tested positive to diphtheria,’’ Muazu said. He added that the two confirmed samples were those from Kazaure and Jahun local government areas of Jigawa. He explained that majority of the victims were those that either did not receive complete immunisation or those that received zero dose of childhood immunisation. “In fact, in the last 10 years, we have not had diphtheria in Jigawa, but in those neighbouring states that now have the epidemic. “The reason why we have it now may be due to the COVID-19 period when healthcare services completely broke down,’’ he said. Muazu urged parents and community leaders to support and cooperate with health workers as government had concluded plans to conduct mop-up immunisation in affected local government areas. He also called on residents to promptly report persons with symptoms of diphtheria to Disease Notification Officers in the local government areas or to the nearest health facility.
4 die, 10 injured in Jigawa auto crash – FRSC

About four persons have died, while 10 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in an accident involving two vehicles on Gumel-Kano Road in Jigawa. Mr Ibrahim Gambo, the Spokesman, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, confirmed the accident in a Road Traffic Report (RTC), in Dutse on Monday. He said the accident occurred at about 12:25 a.m. when a bus had a head-on collision with an upcoming vehicle at Achauya village in Gumel Local Government Area of the state. “A commercial bus (Sharon) with registration number GML 260 XX carrying passengers was involved in a collision with a truck with registration number GUS 648 XA coming from the opposite direction. “It could be attributed to speed violation and loss of control, 14 persons, consisting of 11 males and three females were involved in the crash,” he said. He said that four male passengers were certified dead by a medical doctor at a hospital in the area while seven males and three females were receiving treatment. He advised motorists to shun night journeys and respect traffic rules to ensure safety on the road.
Flood Crisis: TETFund pledges to intervene in Jigawa

Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) says it will assist the Jigawa State Government in tackling the flood menace ravaging its University of Science and Technology. The Executive Secretary of TETFund, Mr Sunday Echono, made the pledge when Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa visited him in Abuja. According to Echono, Jigawa is one of the major frontier states in terms of emerging technology. “In spite of the challenges, Jigawa is resilient in the area of innovation and technology and I think that was why the Federal Government established the Federal University of Technology in Babura in the state. “We want to assure you that we will continue to support your effort in the development of education in Babura and Jigawa State in general. “You had it rough after the flood that ravaged the institution, where some structures were affected. “Also, on the issue of security infrastructure, we will send a team to look at it and grant your request,” Echono said. Earlier, the governor said that his visit was to thank Echono for TETfund’s intervention in the terriary institutions in Jigawa state. He lauded the agency for all it was doing toward the development of education in the country. “Like Oliver Twist, we need more of your interventions in Jigawa state and we will continue to cooperate with TETFund,” Namadi said.
