Nigeria’s Equity Market Rakes In N564bn

Transactions on the floor of Nigerian Exchange on Monday opened the week in positive note, gaining N355 billion following gains recorded by BuaCement, Nigerian Breweries, NGX group among others. Market capitalisation of listed equities increased higher by 0.97 per cent to N36.865 trillion from N36.510 trillion reported the previous day. The NGX All Share Index also appreciated by 646.76 basis points to 67101.33 points from 66454.57 points reported on Friday. A review of the trading activities showed that BuaCement led gainers table in percentage terms, gaining 10 per cent to close at N103.40 per unit, Chi Plc followed with a gain of 9.80 per cent to close at N1.12 per unit, Nigerian Breweries added 9.09 per cent to close at N42.00, John Holt increased by 8.11 per cent to close at N1.60 per unit, SUNU Assurance added 7.22 per cent to close at N1.04 per share. On the contrary, Prestige insurance topped losers chart, dropping by 10 per cent to close at N0.45 per unit, FTNCocoa trailed with a loss of 8.33 per cent to close at N1.65 per unit, Neimeth international Pharmaceutical down by 7.74 per cent to close at N1.55 per unit, Sovereign Trust Insurance fell by 5.0 per cent to close at N0.38 per unit, ETranzact down by 4.26 per cent to close at N9.00. Volume of transactions declined by 105.43 million, representing 28.18 per cent as investors traded 268.663 million shares valued at N3.463 billion in 6911 deals against 374.093 million shares costing N8.933 billion in 6882 deals. The result further showed that ABC Transport was the toast of investors due Ng the day accounting for 29.269 million shares valued at N19.908 million, AccessCorp followed with account of 29.171 million shares valued at N465.977 million, Oando Plc traded 27.090 million shares valued at N252.976 million, United Bank for Africa exchanged 23.751 million shares cost N407.671 million, TransCorp traded 23.735 million shares valued at N149.510 million.

Bears Continue To Dominate As Equity Market Sheds N112bn

Bears continued to dominate the domestic equity market as investors’ weather depleted by N112 billion as sell off in the shares of companies in the financial services sector impacted on the market. Market capitalisation of listed equities declined by 0.31 per cent to N36.367 trillion from N36.479 trillion reported the previous day. The NGX benchmark index declined by 203.54 basis points to 66448.63 points from 66,652.17 points traded the previous day. The trading result showed that RTBriscoe led gainers table with 9.76 per cent to N0.45 per unit, CWG followed with a gain of 9.72 per cent to close at N7.90 per share, Betaglass gained 9.55 per cent to close at N56.20 per unit, Veritas Kapital gained 8.33 per cent to close at N0.26 per unit, Cornerstone Insurance added 7.88 per cent to close at N1.76 per share. On the contrary, Vitafoam Nigeria Plc topped losers chart in percentage terms, shedding 9.92 per cent to close at N22.25 per unit FTNCocoa trailed with a loss of 9.88 per cent to close at N1.55 per share, Oando Plc down by 9.84 per cent to close at N8.70 per unit, JohnHolt dipped by 9.39 per cent to N1.64 per share,United Capital declined by 7.20 per cent to close at N16.10 per unit. Volume of trades for the day declined also by 90.191 million, representing 24.78 per cent as Investors traded 273.798 million shares valued at N3.412 billion in 6826 deals against 363.989 million shares worth N4.529 billion in 7018 deals.AccessCorp led market activities with 45.877 million shares valued at N710.626 million, Zenith Bank followed with 21.116 million shares cost N657.222 million, Unity Bank traded 19.835 million shares cost N192.391 million, United Bank for Africa exchanged 17.294 million shares cost N279.315 million, Transnational Corporation of Nigeria exchanged 15.728 million shares worth  N93.924 million.

Domestic equities Monday opened the week bullish, gaining N263 billion. The market capitalisation of listed equities increased by 0.71 per cent to close at N37.149 trillion from N36.886 trillion it closed on Friday. The Nigeria Exchange (NGX)’s All Share Index (ASI) also appreciated by 481.43 basis points to 67877.17 million points from 67395.74 points recorded the previous day. An analysis of the investment showed that Chams Plc, Northern Nigeria Flour Mills and Oando Plc led gainers table with 10 per cent each to close at N1.21, N14.85 and N12.10 per share respectively. Stanbic IBTC followed with a gain of 9.58 per cent to close at N75.50 per unit, Lasaco Insurance gained 9.38 per cent to close at N2.10 per share. On the contrary,  Omatek topped losers chart, dropping by 10 per cent to close at N0.36 per share, SkyAVN trailed with loss of 9.95 per cent to close at N25.35 per unit, Betaglass fell 9.93 per cent to close at N46.70 per share, Redstarex dipped by 8.50 per cent to N2.80 per unit, Courtvellle Business Solutions fell by 8.47 per cent to close at N0.54 per cent. Volume of activities increased as investors traded 515.280 million shares valued at N8.925 billion in 8357 deals against 408.868 million shares valued at N5.233 billion in 6972 deals. Transactions in the shares of United Bank for Africa led market activities with 109.473 million shares valued at N1.934 billion, Universal Insurance followed with account 65.402 million shares cost N14.182 million, Transnational Corporation of Nigeria traded 42.306 million shares cost N264.950 million, AccessCorp exchanged 40.186 million shares cost N703.406 million while Chams Plc traded 32.177 million shares cost N38.617 million.
