NNPC/Renaissance JV Boosts Cancer Fight at National Hospital

…Donates $300,000 for maintenance of cancer treatment machine The NNPC/Renaissance Joint Venture (JV) has donated $300,000 (Three Hundred Thousand US Dollars) to the National Hospital, Abuja, to support the maintenance of its advanced Linear Accelerator (LINAC) Radiotherapy Machine, a key facility for cancer treatment in Nigeria. Sustaining Lifesaving Technology In a statement, NNPCL Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Mr. Andy Odeh disclosed that the LINAC machine was originally donated by the JV in 2019 as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). It was stated that the initiative was aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s cancer care ecosystem. The project also included the provision of data and ancillary systems, as well as the training of medical professionals to operate the high-precision equipment. Speaking during a presentation ceremony at the office of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, the Chief Upstream Investment Officer of NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), Engr. Oluwaseyi Omotowa, outlined the impact of the intervention. “Since installation, the LINAC machine has facilitated treatment for over 2,000 patients, reduced treatment costs by 80%, shortened therapy sessions from 12 minutes to 2 minutes, and provided subsidised care for 712 indigent patients,” Omotowa said, represented by Nkechi Anaedobe, Head of Business Services, NNPC-NUIMS. He explained that the latest donation would ensure timely maintenance, minimal downtime, compliance with international standards, and precise calibration — all vital to maintaining the efficiency and safety of radiotherapy treatment. “As we move forward, the JV will continue to forge partnerships that not only address immediate healthcare needs but also build a robust foundation for future medical advancements,” he added. “Together, we are not just treating illnesses; we are fostering a healthier, more resilient nation.” Government Commends Initiative The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Muhammed Ali Pate, lauded the NNPC/Renaissance JV for its continued support, describing the gesture as “worthy of emulation” by other corporate entities. “This intervention aligns perfectly with broader government efforts to revamp critical infrastructure and improve healthcare quality for Nigerians,” Dr. Pate noted.“Quality healthcare comes at a cost, and with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed focus on health sector investment, partnerships like this significantly strengthen the cause.” A Lifeline for Cancer Patients The Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital, Dr. Muhammad Raji Mahmud, described the support as a lifeline of hope for thousands of cancer patients who depend on the hospital’s services each year. “At the National Hospital Cancer Centre, we treat thousands of patients annually, and the impact of NNPC and Renaissance’s backing has been profound. It has strengthened local cancer care, reduced medical tourism, and enhanced our national capacity to treat cancer effectively,” Mahmud said. Strategic Investment in Healthcare Also speaking, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Renaissance Africa Energy Company, Mr. Tony Attah, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustainable healthcare and medical innovation. “This is not charity. CSR: Chevron Spends $100m In 23 years

The establishment of Partnership Initiatives In The Niger Delta (PIND) by Chevron has gulped over $100 million and leveraged a corresponding amount from investors and partners. In 2010, Chevron established the PIND, a non-profit organization working with partners to complement the GMoU, build peace and address the macro socio-economic issues in the Niger Delta region. The PIND’s programmes have continued to create socio-economic impact in the Niger Delta region through the twin pillars of economic development and peace building, leading to increased productivity and incomes, jobs, and reduced conflict,” said, Esimaje Brikinn, Chevron Nigeria’s General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs. Brikinn, in a statement during Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary, highlighted Chevron Nigeria’s focus on helping to engender the development of communities in the Niger Delta through the erstwhile Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU), a community-driven, participatory partnership model for community engagement pioneered by Chevron Nigeria in 2005. “Through the GMoU, we provided funds to execute hundreds of projects in the communities where we operate in the Niger Delta region. This has led to social investment projects benefitting over 600 communities in the Niger Delta area. We will be leveraging our experience with the GMoU in the implementation of the Host Community Development Trust (HCDT) provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA)”, he stated. For the last 10 years, one of the Chevron Nigeria companies, Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, has spent an estimated annual average of $1 billion on Nigerian suppliers and service providers. The Chairman and Managing Director, Chevron Nigeria and Mid-Africa Business unit, Rick Kennedy, said “Chevron does all this, not because it is compelled to, but because it is the right thing to do.” Brikinn further narrated that Chevron Nigeria’s social investment footprint extends beyond its areas of operation, adding, “Among other health initiatives, Chevron Nigeria built and donated a DNA Molecular laboratory to the University of Lagos Teaching Hospital, and the facility is very significant to medical research in Nigeria.” In the heat of the coronavirus pandemic, Chevron Nigeria donated a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) laboratory to Warri Central Hospital to support the Delta State government in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to other industry-collaborations. Chevron Nigeria has also implemented health initiatives such as the Roll Back Malaria programmes, Prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS and awareness programmes on River blindness, etc. In its Deep offshore operations, Chevron Nigeria has continued to implement projects and programmes in the areas of health, education, and economic development across Nigeria. Brikinn said the Star Deepwater Petroleum Company Limited (a Chevron company) and its parties in the Agbami field – Famfa Oil Limited, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Equinor Nigeria Energy Company Limited, and Prime 127 Nigeria Limited – have been investing in fighting Tuberculosis with the construction and equipment of chest clinics in Nigeria to support the treatment and care of tuberculosis patients in Nigeria.
BlueStream Group pledges 100% scholarship, grants to Nigerian students

A Group, Bluestream Educational Ltd says it is set to offer 100 percent educational scholarships and grants to Nigerian students to further their education at home and abroad. The fair was organised by the group in collaboration with some top universities in Turkey, U.S. U.K., and Canada. He explained that in addition to the scholarships Bluestream Educational Ltd was giving grants to students free of charge no strings attached as long as they are brilliant or show evidence that they deserve such and it is within their budget. “Our resolve, as part of our CSR is to continue to assist students with the needed information on gaining admission, scholarships and sponsorships. “We are indeed proud of the performances of Nigerian students and this is what spurs us to do even more. “We are committed to solving the challenges faced by our students who are seeking admission into various universities around the world. “So far, we have helped over 1,000 students to gain admission, and also assisted a number of them to get scholarships, this we do with our partners in the U.S., Canada, UK, Turkey, and other countries. “This year’s edition will see us give 100 percent educational scholarships to students who perform excellently well in our in-house examinations. “We are in partnership with some Turkish universities including; Sabanci University, Isik University, Istinye University, Istanbul Ozyegin University, Bahcesehir University, to mention a few,” he said. He said the group also offers personalised services based on the student’s budget or academic performance (secondary school transcripts). He added that their services also include; assisting students improve their scores in IELTS Exam organised by the British Council, TOEFL, IGCSE O & A Levels, GRE, IJMB/JUPEB, JAMB, WAEC, Adult Education, etc. Ogirima commended the student loan policy of President Bola Tinubu-led administration. He said that if well-articulated, the policy would go a long way in improving access to education by Nigerians just as it is done in the U.K. and U.S. “For us in Nigeria, we are just starting but at least, we know now that the government is talking about student loans which is the way to go. “The idea will further assist indigent students gain quality education, which is in line with the Federal Government’s policies on inclusive, affordable, and accessible education. “Student loan is not out of place given our current realities and challenges in higher education (HE/FE) pursuit. But it has to be well articulated and domesticated with the government’s sincerity of purpose. “It is a huge investment that should be given all the attention and seriousness it deserves,” he said.
