COAS Lagbaja Inaugurates Computer Lab Donated By Old Pupils

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.- Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has inaugurated an ultra modern Computer Laboratory at the Command Children School, Chindit Cantonment, Zaria. Lt. Christian Onyemachi, the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Nigerian Military School, Zaria, Kaduna State, said this in a statement issued on Saturday in Zaria. Onyemachi said the inauguration was part of the activities organised by the Army Staff School, Zaria, Old Pupils Association (ASSZOPA), to commemorate the golden jubilee of the school. He said Lagbaja was represented by the Commandant Depot Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen Mohammed Aminu Abdullahi, at the event. He said the COAS expressed joy in the celebration and commended the Old Pupils Association for being socially responsible by giving back to their almamata. He commended members of the association for donating the ultra modern laboratory to the school in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the school. ““This will no doubt go a long way in preparing our children for the competitive world we live in. “You would all agree with me that technological advancement has made computer literacy compulsory as we can no longer function effectively without it in the world today,” Lagbaja said. The army chief acknowledged the ASSZOPA for selflessness, sacrifices and ingenuity in remodeling the school; adding that the Old Pupils Association understood the significance of primary education as the foundation of every successful person. The COAS expressed delight that the school has produced many successful men and women in Nigeria and Diaspora in all works of life. He, therefore, called for concerted and collaborative efforts of parents, teachers and various stakeholders, including alumni associations, to harness available opportunities to build a better future for the children. The special guest of honor emphasised that teachers should be conscious of the fact that they have a great responsibility and a delicate one towards the learners. He asserted that teachers have been entrusted with the responsibility of shaping and moulding the destiny of the children because they spend a significant time of the day with them. He stated that the foundation you lay today would be what they would build on to the future, and if that foundation is faulty, the rest of the structure is in danger of crumbling.
Tragedy As Abacha’s Daughter Is Found Dead In Maiduguri

In a heart-wrenching incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, Mrs. Amma Buwa, daughter of Honourable Bukar Abacha, a member of the Borno State House of Assembly representing Ngala local government area, was discovered strangled to death in her Maiduguri home. The tragic event unfolded at approximately 6:30 pm on Tuesday evening while Mrs. Buwa’s husband was away, attending prayers at a nearby mosque. Upon his return, the distraught husband made the grim discovery within their residence, finding his wife’s lifeless body. Her hands and legs were bound behind her back, and her two-year-old child was crying beside her. The husband promptly reported this horrifying incident to local authorities, leading to the Gwange Police Division transferring the body to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital for a post-mortem examination and further investigation. The community is in shock, with residents gathering at the scene to offer their condolences and support during these trying times. A family source took to social media to announce that the funeral of the deceased, Mrs. Amma Buwa, will be held the following morning at the 777 Housing Estate in Maiduguri. It’s worth noting that less than 24 hours before this tragic incident, the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, had taken decisive action to address security concerns in the area. He ordered the demolition of brothels, shanties, and makeshift bars at the Railway Terminus general area, asserting that these locations were breeding grounds for criminals responsible for killings in the metropolis.
N5bn Palliative: FCT to boost transportation, food –Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, Mr Nyesom Wike, says the FCTA is considering transportation and food supplies support with the N5 billion palliative received from the Federal Government. Wike stated this in Abuja after a closed-door meeting with contractors handling different projects in the FCT. The Federal Government had on Aug. 17 announced a N5 billion palliative for each state of the federation, including the FCT, to cushion the impact of the removal of the petrol subsidy. Some of the state governments have confirmed receiving N2 billion from the amount, while awaiting the N3 billion balance. However, the minister said that the FCT was not included in the N5 billion palliative until he wrote a memo informing President Bola Tinubu of the development. He added that Tinubu has approved the amount, adding that other states have received N2 billion already, expressing confidence that the FCT will equally receive soon. “But we are yet to decide on what to do with the N2 billion palliative. We have not chosen any area yet. “Are we going to concentrate on food, but we are thinking that the issue of transportation is very very important, particularly the urban mass transit. “People would like to have easy transportation to go to where they want to go, and if you give them rice and they eat the rice today, what about transportation tomorrow? “So, we have not come up with what actually we are going to use the money for, but I believe food support and transportation is very key,” he said. The minister added that efforts were ongoing to bring back urban mass transportation to be able to reduce the suffering of the masses in terms of transportation.
