Former EFCC Chairman, Larmode To Be Buried Today

Former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Lamorde, who passed away in Egypt on Sunday, has been laid to rest at Gudu Cemetry, Abuja. The 61-year-old had travelled to Egypt for medical treatment before he passed on. The burial announcement was made by former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, on his X handle on Tuesday. Pantami shared a statement from Lamorde’s family, confirming the funeral arrangements. “The Jana’iza prayer of our late father, brother and Uncle DIG Ibrahim LAMORDE mni and Former Chairman of EFCC is coming up Tuesday 28/05/2024 at the National Mosque Abuja by 1:30 pm in sha Allah, immediately after Zuhr!” Pantami posted. Lamorde, born on December 20, 1962, joined the Nigerian Police Force in 1986 and retired as a Deputy Inspector General of Police in 2021. During his career, he served as the Chairman of the EFCC from 2011 to 2015, playing a significant role in the fight against corruption in Nigeria. Lamorde’s burial will take place at the National Mosque in Abuja, where a Jana’iza prayer will be held in his honour, attended by family, friends, and colleagues who will gather to pay their final respects.
Actor Sisi Quadri Buried Amid Tears

Late Nollywood actor, Quadri Oyebamiji, widely known as Sisi Quadri, found his final resting place in his Iwo hometown on Saturday. The actor died on Friday while he was undergoing treatment at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso. The actor’s body, transported from Ogbomoso, arrived in Iwo on Friday, leading to an outpouring of grief. A large gathering of residents, colleagues, and well-wishers attended prayers held at an open field near his residence. Following the emotional ceremony, Sisi Quadri was laid to rest in front of his house in the Agbowo Area of Iwo. Toyin Olaiya, former governor of the Association of Nigeria Theater Art Practitioner in Osun State, and leader of the theater group Sisi Quadri joined in 1996, expressed shock over the actor’s passing. Olaiya disclosed that Sisi Quadri fell ill while working on a film set, highlighting the unexpected nature of his death. Olaiya shared, “When I heard of his illness, I told some of his contemporaries that trained under me to visit him. I was told he had been moved to a private medical facility in Iwo for treatment. I never thought it would result in death.” Sisi Quadri is survived by his wife and two children.
UNIBEN suspends academic activities over burial

The management of the University of Benin, UNIBEN, has ordered the temporary suspension of academic activities at the Ugbowo campus of the institution over the host community’s burial of a vigilante chairman scheduled for Saturday. The institution disclosed this in a statement dated February 9, 2024, signed by Professor Clement Ighodaro, Dean of Students Affairs, on behalf of the management of the institution. In the statement by the institution titled “Notice to UNIBEN Students on Security Alerts in Ekosodin Community and its Environ,” Prof. Ighodaro said the vigilante chairman was killed some time ago at Ekosodin community. “The alert from the information gathered concerns the burial ceremony this weekend of the vigilante chairman murdered some time ago at Ekosodin. “Students are therefore advised to conclude all activities today, Friday 9th February by 6 pm and to return to their places of abode in the community and to stay indoors. “They are to remain indoors the next day, Saturday, until the events of the burial in the community are over and other citizens can move about freely. Students on campus are also advised to return to their respective hostels before nightfall during this period,” he said. He also informed members of the university community that the institution’s gate leading to Ekosodin will be closed at 7 pm on Friday and Saturday. When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Dr Benedicta Ehanire, confirmed the statement. “The notice is from the university authority,” she said.
