Tinubu sacks BPE director-general, appoints replacement 

President Bola Tinubu has relieved Mamman Ahmadu of his duties as director general of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE). In a statement by presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale on Saturday, the president also approved the appointment of Ayodeji Ariyo Gbeleyi as the new DG of the BPE. “Mr. Gbeleyi is a renowned financial expert and award-winning chartered accountant,” the statement read. “He is a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN). “He is also an alumnus of executive programmes of the prestigious London Business School, Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and Lagos Business School. “He has over 30 years of post-qualification experience in diverse sectors, including manufacturing, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), investment & commercial banking, project finance, telecommunications, infrastructure, and public administration. “He was the board Chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) and Commissioner of Finance in Lagos State from 2013 to 2015. “The President expects the new Director-General to bring his vast experience and competence to bear in this role to strengthen the agency as the national resource centre for capacity building and sustenance of reforms through the promotion of a competitive private sector-driven economy, ensuring social accountability and efficient deployment of public resources, as well as advancing effective corporate governance and fiduciary discipline in the public and private sectors.”

In conformity with plans to restructure and reposition critical agencies of the Federal Government towards protecting the rights of Nigerian consumers and providing a strong basis for enhanced contributions to the nation’s economy by key growth-enabling institutions, President Bola Tinubu has dismissed the two Chief Executive Officers. This was made known in a release signed by Chief Ajuri Ngelale Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity in Abuja. The sacked CEOs are: (1) Mr. Babatunde Irukera — EVC/CEO, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) (2) Mr. Alexander Ayoola Okoh — Director-General/CEO, Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) The two dismissed Chief Executives are directed to hand over to the next most senior officer in their respective agencies, pending the appointment of new Chief Executive Officers. By this directive of the President, their removal from office takes immediate effect.

Plateau signs agreement with SON to boost enterprises

The Plateau government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) to boost the activities of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the state. The MoU was signed on Wednesday in Jos by the Director-General of the Plateau State Microfinance Development Development Agency (PLASMIDA), Mr. Bomkam Wuyep, for the state government. Also, the Director-General of SON, Malam Farouk Salim, who was represented by Mr Sale Babaji, the North Central regional manager, signed on behalf of Salim. Wuyep said that the signing of the MoU with SON would enable the MSMEs in the state to take advantage of the services of SON which would enhance the production of the quality of locally produced goods making them of standard and competitive in the international markets. Wuyep also said that the signing of the MoU would enable the MSMEs in the state to enjoy discounted registration with the SON. According to him, the certification the MSMEs get from SON will also enable them to access certain funding. The director-general of SON said the signing of the MOU would help the MSMEs in the state to grow and ensure that their products are standardized in line with international standards. According to him, the MoU would also enable the MSMEs at the grassroots to benefit from the packages of SON
